The Office of Fare Trading has found “no evidence of a competition problem [or] collusion between suppliers” within the heating oil market and was able to identity “a variety of evidence that rival suppliers compete on price.”

The trading watchdog was asked to investigate the market following increases in the price of heating oil last winter.

However the trading body did crack down over “grounds for concern over compliance with consumer law.” Issues were raised over fuel websites implying that they were independent or were comparing prices from different suppliers, when this was not in fact the case.
